***Hi. Look for Lia Kurtin MARCH calendars. She has some easy ideas to help with speech/language… easy, easy! Things that you’ll say things like, “I know… I forgot about that…”

My unique educational background and experiences enable me to serve my community in many ways. It sounds complicated~yet it muddles together and works!

Some of my background:

  • BS in Speech Pathology
  • MS Education
  • TSHH (Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped)
  • General Education Certification (N-6)
  • MA Counseling
  • LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)
  • NBCC (National Board Certified Counselor)
  • Experience with homeschool (personally and professionally)
  • Public school career n-12
  • Former Psychiatric Inpatient Residential Treatment Therapist
  • UPK owner/teacher
  • Early Intervention experience (currently working for Agency and private pay)
  • Here’s my full ‘resume’ if you’re curious
  • Wayne co resident
  • Former Children’s choir director (I can carry a tune… and use instruments to assist language development and enrich learning)
  • Trauma Trained

A bit About me…

  • I LOVE LOVE love what I do… and can’t believe I get paid for it!
  • I chew gum all of the time
  • I love animals- and if my husband was up for it- I’d have many many more
  • If you ask my opinion, I WILL give it. Be cautious
  • I don’t jump onto bandwagons, esp with diagnoses…
  • I practice the Christian faith
  • I love gardening but can’t grow a darn thing
  • I love to cook but burn things if not supervised
  • I try very hard to be organized, but it really only lasts a second. The family rule is … give me 5 seconds and I can find anything
  • I have many MANY ideas from mostly others… I don’t care if (and expect) you use them… My expectations and hopes are that families at least try to use some, it sparks new ideas for you… or you try craft them into something that works for your family.
  • I work hard, will work you and your family hard, pushing boundaries for change.
  • I resist using technology for therapy, yet it can OFTEN be a conduit for wild language growth and decrease in frustrations.
  • My above all favorite part of my existence is my growing family.

~Here’s a snapshot of the current things happening at Sand Alley~

I am honored to join individuals and families who need to process some of life’s challenges–losses, grief, life changes, anxiety, depression, marital, and premarital counseling, behavioral challenges. The climate of seeking therapy has changed!!! What a great thing to have many of the stigmas of seeking outside help are lessening.

Developmental sessions ~ Individual

Offering behavioral support, general developmental intervention. Anything from consults to tutoring about your little-or big one.

Have a child with Down’s syndrome?

Need assistance with homeschool curriculum?

Developmental~ Groups

Currently running small groups. Groups are 1 1/2 hours long, therapist lead with parent education and a great way for kids to interact with others. The ultimate goal? Parents and children will work together, and then enjoy time with their same age humans for a bit ๐Ÿ™‚

The hope is that children will learn a healthy, safe separation (in the same room) while the parents exchange ideas, pains, and a hot beverage together.
