JAN AND EARLY FEB PARENT NEWSLETTER:

JANUARY AND EARLY FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER
We’ve made it through most of the cold snaps (hopefully). I do appreciate your patience with my humanness … my car trouble and illness. IT IS SO HELPFUL to all that you have let me know when your child is ill. PLEASE – I love and value my work– but it’s ‘just’ speech/language. Let’s all attempt to fight through sniffles and colds- if we didn’t, WE’D NEVER see each other.
YET... ‘School’ rules apply— please cancel if your child hasn’t been fever free for approximately 24hrs, or if they have/are vomiting and/or have experienced non-baby (regular-you know the difference ) diarrhea. I try to keep the toys reasonably clean from kid to kid– but as you know already– germs spread quickly.
This month (and always)… We will work on

*IMITATION
*TURN TAKING
*TOLERATING CHANGE and/or UNPREFERRED activities
RECIPROCITY (BACK AND FORTH) even when there aren’t any verbalizations or ‘words’.

Search Amazon for ‘TODDLER VALENTINE’S BOOKS’- then put them on reserve at your public LIBRARY !
GOOD FOR RHYMING… ME….BE….SMALL….TALL

Some housekeeping:
PLEASE NOTE: My office hours are generally TUES-THURS 9-4pm. I often check my texts after hours ~ but not always (I’m not ignoring you- just not in Early Intervention mode).

*FYI– I will be holding sessions during the public school FEB break (feb 17-21)
*** No sessions FEB 24th-28th.***
IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED– I will still hold sessions – UNLESS the roads are closed or treacherous.

*Here are some silly sounds and activities to work on:
*kissing lips- use a mirror
*Kiss the mirror with chapstick / lipstick to emphasize lip placement
*Say, “I love you” in sign language
*HUG with a sound! Maybe use the sounds/words, ‘squeeze’, ‘squish’.
*Some things to try having your child do with you and imitate:
1) OPEN ARMS (and pair with ‘open/shut them song’)
2) Three Red Valentines
Original Author: Unknown
Sung to: “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”
Three red Valentines, each one with a bow.
Pretty and shiny and lacy, too.
Standing in a row.
3) A Red Heart (or other colors)
Original Author: Unknown
Sung to: “Mary had a little lamb”
I have a red heart, a red heart, a red heart.
I have a red heart.
That I will give to you.
